What 6-year-old wouldn’t want to eat one of these chocolate chip cookies?

June 11, 2012–Pictured here are chocolate chip cookies infused with marijuana, just one example of “marijuana edibles.” A new industry has emerged to supply marijuana edibles to patients eligible for medical marijuana, now legal in 17 states and the District of Columbia. If voters approve ballot measures to legalize the production, distribution, and retail sale of marijuana for recreational use, not only will smokeable varieties of the drug be sold in retail outlets, but also food products like these. How will we keep them out of the hands of children? Other marijuana edibles include:

Marijuana Caramels and Fudge

Marijuana Pancakes

Marijuana White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies

And Marijuana Cookbooks

What do you mean, “How will we keep them out of the hands of children”? It’s called parenting… the same way you keep your children from ingesting painkillers, alcohol, cigarettes, draino, etc. It’s not the government’s job to parent your children, that’s your job. Your logic is truly un-american and tragically flawed. By supporting prohibition, you support the drug cartels. Legalization and regulation would keep it out of children’s hands by ensuring that proper identification is shown before purchase… drug dealers don’t ID.

You miss the point entirely. But What about the Children proposes 12 provisions that must be in any regulations states will write if voters approve ballot initiatives to legalize marijuana. The alcohol and tobacco industries manage to spend billions of dollars marketing their products to underage children despite parents’ best efforts to keep their children safe and drug free. So will a commercial marijuana industry if the drug is legalized. Many lessons can be learned from our failed attempts to restrain our two legal drugs before a third one enters the U.S. market place.
